ILENE CRAWFORD (Ph.D.)

Dr. Ilene Crawford is a professor of English and Women’s studies at Southern Connecticut State University in the USA. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric, composition studies, women’s studies, and pedagogy; occasionally she teaches literature courses as well. Her interest in language’s power to shape how people see themselves and how they act in the world informs all of her teaching. Her research regularly takes her to Southeast Asia, where she investigates how globalization compels people to learn English, and how learning English creates positive and negative changes in their lives. She is particularly interested in the strategies teachers and students develop to navigate western cultural values that may conflict with their own.
