Dr. Dang Thi Ngoc Lan is currently the Head of the Language Center and Foundation Year of the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Vietnam. Before serving in this position, she was the Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs of VGU, Vice Dean of the Graduate School and Deputy Director of the Department of International Relations of Can Tho University. She earned her Master’s degree in Educational Management and Human Resource Development at the University of Sydney in Australia in 2002, and her doctoral degree in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education at Michigan State University (MSU) in 2012. Her research interests are in gender issues, academic women and leadership, administration, governance, and quality assurance and accreditation in higher education. She was awarded the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship by the U.S. Department of State in 2005 and pursued her professional development in higher education at the Pennsylvania State University in the U.S. in the 2005-2006 academic year. In 2013, she was selected as one of the 40 very high profile Australian alumni by the Vietnamese Graduates from Australia Club thanks to her great contributions to the development of Vietnam and the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Australia.
Throughout her career, Dr. Dang has participated in various leadership and women’s activities in Vietnam and the U.S. She used to be the Chairperson of the Women’s Association of her Department of International Relations for almost a decade. Likewise, she actively and whole-heartedly took part in diverse activities of the Soroptimist International of Center County in State College in Pennsylvania and was offered the Certificate of Appreciation as the “Most Enthusiastic Guest Member.” In the academic year of 2010-2011, she was the President of the Association of Vietnamese Students and Scholars at MSU. Last but not least, since spring of 2013, she has acted as the Country Director of the scholarship program funded by an American non-profit organization named Women’s Empowerment and Voice, which promotes gender equality in education for girls and women in economically challenged communities in the Mekong Delta.
